An old friend got in touch with me a couple days ago, a female friend of course: she recently got out of a relationship and wanted to hang out one night. Tonight was that night.
She came by to pick me up around 6:30pm and said she was starving, I agreed: a single banana for lunch doesn't cut it for a guy my size.
A little background on Lady L. She just got out of a year or so long relationship a week or so ago. Red flag: we're just friends who've had an fwb relationship when we were around our early 20's, but even back then I had a thing for her.
We had hung out on many occasions before we ever became intimate, and I always enjoyed the time we spent together: she was really great company.
As time past on after we first met when I was around 18 or 19, maybe 20....we became friends that eventually led to late night booty calls once in a while. She's a natural redhead/strawberry blond, I have always had a thing for redheads....don't know why but I do.
We had a couple late night flings while I was still working: when she called late at night, I dropped whatever the hell I was doing and met up with her. The sex was awesome.
We kind of lost touch for a few months or so, then I had my accident at work. She contacted me a couple months after my accident, concerned about me like a caring friend. I offered to take her to dinner one night back in early 2003 and we went for Chinese food and had a chat about life. At the time I was still in pretty bad shape: burns unhealed, and a home-care nurse on a daily basis. Even getting out for a couple hours physically hurt, but for her I wasn't passing up dinner and catching up.
She came back to my house to visit for a while and we talked more, mostly about what happened to me: she was concerned about my health after being burnt half to death.
Years past after that one dinner/visit she started dating a guy I know and I bumped into her at a local bar with her man who I am friends with. I was drunk as was she, and we really didn't say much but the basic "hey, how are you?" type convo.
Okay so fast forward to a few days ago. She hadn't read the "Perfect Woman" blog, at least to my knowledge but left a comment on my page about getting together soon and that she was single. We texted back and forth for a few days and made plans to go out Tuesday and she was going to take me shopping for stuff for the new pad.
She came by around 6:30 to pick up my non-driving loser ass, came in and said she was starving which I agreed with her. I told her pick the place and we're there. She mentioned Carino's and I told her "whatever you feel like"....can never go wrong with Italian.
We ate, had two beers, and talked about how life has changed for both of us over the 8 years since we last had a serious chat.
After dinner we hurried to Bed, Bath, and Beyond to pick up some much needed stuff. We dropped the stuff off at my temporary residence (parents house) and headed out for a couple drinks.
The whole time we talked I couldn't help but think of what a perfect catch she'd be for someone. She's got her life in order and does well for herself, but her ex told her that they had no future together. Why the fuck he'd tell her something like that is beyond me. He's a singer in a pretty popular band in the area, more than 10 years older than her, and told her they had no future together. We both agreed it was his loss, not hers.
Here's the catch. I am not looking for a relationship and don't expect anything more than friendship but she's definitely a keeper. I wanted to take a weekend trip next month to Atlanta with my sister, but she never gave me a response and...ya snooze ya lose. I have family and friends all over the country. I explained this to Lady L and asked if she'd like to get away for a long weekend: just the two of us. Of course she said yes, but she said some place warm.
Since she just came out of a relationship this is like walking on thin ice. For now she just needs to see what it's like to be treated like a lady and that I can do. She wants to go out tomorrow after work so we'll see how that pans out.
I said it before and I'll say it again.....
My expectations are zero so my disappointment is none.
